 There have been many arguments.

 Interestingly, in biblical Hebrew (Genesis 2:21–22), the word translated as "rib" is צֵלָע (tselaʿ / sela), which more commonly means "side" or "side chamber / plank" in other contexts. It only means "rib" in that one famous passage, and some scholars argue the translation emphasizes "side" rather than specifically a single bone <Grok review>.
